Organ: The Parish Church of St Michael
Highgate, London
The Dean, Wardens and Cathedral Vestry are delighted to
announce the appointment of Alan Gray as Organist and
Minister of Music.
Alan is Organist and Choirmaster of
St Michael's Church in Highgate, London. He comes with a
wealth of experience as a teacher and church musician.
Alan has diplomas in music from
Trinity College London
and the
Royal College of Music, is a Graduate of the Royal School of Music and an associate of the
Royal College of Organists.
We give thanks to God that Alan feels called to come to us
in Nelson where he plans to commence in the new year.
Almighty God our heavenly Father, guide the nations of the world into the way of justice and truth, and establish among them that peace which is the fruit of righteousness, that they may
become the kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Much prayer has been offered concerning the financial challenges we were faced with this year. God has answered our prayers by the generosity of our congregation.
Also, we have received a substantial legacy for $45,000 from the estate of our dear friend Jocelyn Mackay with the promise of a further amount when all the accounts are settled.
Praise be to God!
The Cathedral Welcomers have begun the programme for welcoming the many hundreds of visitors we are privileged to meet each week over the summer month.
Undoubtedly the friendly greetings, and conversations with our Welcomers make our cathedral a "Gods people centred" place!
A detailed knowledge of our cathedral history is not required - There is ample information for visitors to take around with them.
Friendly conversations with our visitors does indeed help them feel wanted and valued!
We do prefer to have a couple of people on duty together, so there are still spaces available on the timetable at the back of the cathedral where you can add your name and phone number or tel 548 1008 contact the Cathedral Office
On 14th September we called a special parishioners meeting regarding a proposed motion to the Diocesan Synod that the Parish of Christ Church (our parish) be downgraded to the status of a mission district. The reasons for this were clearly stated at the time.
That motion was withdrawn and in its place another more constructive one was put. A working group is to be set up (chaired by the Bishop) to investigate the current financial challenges and to recommend to Standing Committee a course of action to enable us to remedy our situation. The Cathedral Vestry fully endorses this course of action. Synod fully agreed with this course of action.
Dean Charles Tyrrell QSO
From the rising of the sun to its setting my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.
Malachi 1:11
Almighty God, govern the hearts and minds of those in authority and
mercifully grant that the peoples of the world, divided and torn apart by sin,
may be brought together under the gentle rule of Christ.
Amen.
