July 13, 1968 at Metropolitan Stadium
Twins 7, Tigers 6 (56-30)

The Tigers lost a tough one as they blew a three run eighth inning lead then lost it in the fourteenth inning.  Joe Sparma gave up two runs in six innings in a solid start but it was John Hiller and Fred Lasher who combined to give up the three runs in the eighth.  Then in the fourteenth, after the Tigers had scored a run in the top of the inning, Dennis Ribant and John Wyatt combined to give up a pair of runs экскурсия на яхте по Москве-реке on back to back bases loaded walks to lose it.

Mickey Stanley and Willie Horton both went yard in the loss.  For Horton, it was his 22nd of the season and Stanley belted his eighth.  Dick McAuliffe went two for seven with a double, a run and an RBI.

Tigers 5, White Sox 4 (47-26)

After two days off because of rain, the Tigers got right back to it with their fourth straight win in front of a home crowd against the White Sox.  Mickey Stanley homered and drove in three runs while Norm Cash hit a two run shot.  Dick McAuliffe was the hitting star though.  He went three for three with a walk and he scored twice.  The two run shot by Stanley in the seventh inning was the game winner.

Earl Wilson had a tough time but because the hitters bailed him out, he didn’t get a decision.  He gave up four runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six inning.  Fred Lasher was perfect through the final three innings and he improved to 5-1.

Tigers 5, Indians 4  (34-19)

The Tigers needed five runs in the final three innings but they did it to win their fourth straight game.  Norm Cash had a big game with a pair of solo homers while Willie Horton joined him with a solo shot of his own.  For Horton, it was his sixteenth of the season.

John Hiller walked five and gave up three runs in 4 2/3 innings.  Fred Lasher gave up a run in the ninth to tie it but he picked up the win because of Mickey Stanley’s walk off RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth.

June 6, 1968 at Fenway Park
Tigers 5, Red Sox 3  (33-19)

The Tigers took the rubber game in their five game series with the Red Sox in a game that saw all eight runs come in the first three innings.  The Tigers jumped out to a two run lead in the top of the first, lost the lead in the bottom half of the inning when the Red Sox scored three and then retook the lead for good with three in the third.

All five Tiger runs came via the longball.  Jim Northrup put the Tigers on the board with a two run shot in the first while Norm Cash hit the game winner with a three run blast in the third.

Joe Sparma evened out his record at 5-5.  He gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks with a strikeout and he came an out short of a complete game.  Fred Lasher got the final out and he picked up his fifth save of the season.

June 1, 1968 at Tiger Stadium
Tigers 5, Yankees 4 (29-16)

The Tigers overcame a four run first inning deficit to top the Yankees by a single run. Les Cain was bounced in the first inning after getting just one batter out and he was tagged for four runs on five hits. Back to back homers by Willie Horton and Norm Cash in the sixth inning tied the game and then Jim Northrup scored on Bill Freehan’s single in the seventh inning for the game winner.

Bill Freehan finished the game with three RBIs while Willie Horton had a team high three hits. His homerun was his fifteenth of the season and for Cash, it was just his third.

Pat Dobson did a fantastic job after that first inning and he went on to pick up the win. He did allow one inherited runner to score in the first but after that, he didn’t allow a run in 5 2/3 innings. Fred Lasher gave up just one hit in three shutout frames and he improved to 3-1.

May 30, 1968 at Anaheim Stadium
Tigers 7, Angels 3  (27-16)

Bill Freehan had a big day at the plate as the Tigers won their third straight game against the Angels.  He went three for three with two walks, a homerun, two RBIs and three runs.  Jim Northrup drove in three runs on two hits while Dick McAuliffe went two for four with a walk and two runs.

Joe Sparma evened his record to 4-4 on the season.  He gave up three runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.  Fred Lasher pitched 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball to close out the game and he picked up his fourth save of the season.

May 19, 1968 at Tiger Stadium
Tigers 5, Senators 4  (21-12)

The Tigers held off a late inning surge to walk away with a win in the first game of their doubleheader with the Senators.  The Tigers took a 4-0 lead into the eigth inning when Earl Wilson and Joe Warden were both tagged for a pair of runs to tie it up.  Then Gates Brown singled home Dick Tracewski in the bottom of the eighth inning to break the tie and to give the Tigers the win.

Fred Lasher picked up the win and he improved to 2-0.  John Hiller threw a perfect ninth and he picked up his first save of the season.

Dick McAuliffe put the Tigers on the board with a solo homer to lead things off.  Al Kaline went two for four and he drove in a run.

May 19, 1968 at Tiger Stadium
Tigers 7, Senators 0  (22-12)

Les Cain picked up his first career win in his first career start as the Tigers finished up a doubleheader sweep over the Senators.  Cain gave up six hits and six walks with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 shutout innings while Fred Lasher got the final seven outs in succession to pick up his third save of the season.

Six of the Tigers runs came via the longball.  Eddie Mathews belted a three run shot, Al Kaline went yard with a two run homer and Dick McAuliffe hit a solo homer.

May 7, 1968 at Memorial Stadium
Tigers 2, Orioles 1  (15-9)

In fantastic pitcher’s duel between Mickey Lolich and Tom Phoebus, the Tigers came out on top on a game where neither team scored until the ninth inning.  Tommy Matchick’s pinch hit, two run double in the ninth gave the Tigers two runs to break the scoreless tie and while Boog Powell hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth, it was enough as the Tigers held on to win.

Mickey Lolich improved to 2-1 with eight shutout innings in which he gave up just three hits.  Fred Lasher gave up the eighth inning run and then Joe Warden came in to get the final out of the game to pick up his first save of the season.

Tigers 5, White Sox 4  (3-1)

The Tigers won their third straight in a ten inning contest in which Bill Freehan provided the heroics.  His RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning won it for the Tigers and it capped off a great individual game for the catcher.  He finished three for five with two RBIs and a run.  Don Wert doubled, drove in two and scored.

Mickey Lolich was roughed up for four runs on nine hits in just five innings.  Fred Lasher threw a shutout tenth inning and he improved to 1-0 on the season.

Tigers 5, White Sox 2  (2-1)

Daryl Patterson threw some exceptional relief pitching after Joe Sparma ran into problems in the fifth inning.  Like Jon Warden two days before, Patterson picked up his first career win and he gave up four hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.  Fred Lasher got the final out of the game and he picked up his first save of the season.

Mickey Stanley was the hitting star.  He went two for five with a double, two RBIs and a run.  Willie Horton doubled, drove in a run and scored in the win.
